On Saturday, January 21, 2017, more than 50,000 people – women and girls, men and boys from all ages and backgrounds marched the streets of Toronto from Queen’s Park to Nathan Phillips Square to show solidarity against the harmful rhetoric and campaign proposals the now-President Donald Trump has promised.
Not only was there a march in Toronto, the Women’s March occurred in our nation’s capital of Ottawa, Halifax, Montreal and internationally, which included Australia, Brazil, France, India, Philippines, South Africa and the United States, just to name a few.
The spirit of all the marchers from all over the world was felt that day.
ATU Local 107 commemorated the 110th Anniversary of the 1906 HSR Transit Strike while uniting against the privatization of Ontario’s Hydro and the contracting out of key transit lines through Metrolinx. The Rally, which was held in front of Hamilton City Hall, on Thursday, November 24, 2016, brought together over 300 concerned citizens, transit riders, other ATU, CUPE and other union locals.
